The Relationship Between Music And Belly Dance

Belly dance has now spread across the country, with belly dance communities in every capital city and many regional centres. Also, thanks to Whenever Wherever in 2001, the Belly Dance fever began popularizing it in a large part of Latin America and later taking it to the United States. Nowadays the Belly Dance is a characteristic dance of this singer which presented a variant with a rope entangling it in her body and dancing to the rhythm of Whenever Wherever. Shakira is the only artist in the music industry who has used Belly Dance on several occasions in her artistic career.



Big names in modern Egyptian dance are Dina, Tito and Randa Kamal. There are also many non-Egyptians who have adopted Egyptian styling in their own dancing as well as worked and built their reputations in Egypt. A few names worth knowing include many dancers from the USA, Yasmin & Leila Nour - Russia, Asmahan – Argentina, Soraya – Brazil and Orit – Israel.

She dances to show the beauty of the female form, to interpret the mood of the music, to fascinate her audience. A lot of peculiar instruments are used in the Middle East to create music that belly dancers dance to. The instruments include win, percussion and strings instruments. Mahmoud Reda and Dr. Mo Geddawi – Both men are part of the Egyptian Reda Troupe that founded Egyptian folk dance and made it famous. They are choreographers and soloists and still teach in belly dancing workshops around the world.

Belly dance is primarily روبي - قلبي بلاستيك a torso-driven dance, with an emphasis on articulations of the hips. Unlike many Western dance forms, the focus of the dance is on isolations of the torso muscles, rather than on movements of the limbs through space. Although some of these isolations appear similar to the isolations used in jazz ballet, they are sometimes driven differently and have a different feeling or emphasis. The dancer interprets the music with swerving hip moves such as undulations, figure-eights, drops and shimmies, but also with gesture.

Belly dancing’s exact orign is anticipatorily debated with dance enthusiasts. Belly dance was based on the social dance native to the Middle East. This dance is a fusion of many dance styles, there are many origins and many form of ethnic folk dances, which are usually performed for celebration and fun events like weddings or social gatherings.

This is the most common rhythm among music used for belly dance, including Arabic pop and traditional Egyptian dance music.
